Angioedema (Swelling)

Angioedema is a particular kind of swelling of the tissue beneath the surface of the skin. Angioedema can occur within the eyelids, face, lips, tongue, hands, feet, and even in the abdomen.

Life threatening swelling can occur when it involves the throat and requires immediate emergency room treatment.

Swelling can be caused by an allergic reaction such as to a medication, food, or insect stings. Swelling can also be caused by both hereditary and acquired conditions.

The allergists at Highland Park Allergy and Asthma can help determine the cause of your swelling in order to determine the safest and most effective treatment plan for you.
